My Studio- Where Magic Happens

Welcome to the most recent version of the Hartford Craft studio. In November I was trying to figure out what I should get my husband for Christmas. “What would he really appreciate that wouldn’t be something that he just used and then didn’t think about in the future?”… Buying him clothes is easy but what else is there… Then it came to me, an office/music studio. My husband DJ’s when he isn’t working, and constantly complains… nags… that I have my own space and he doesn’t. If he sets up his music players and speakers in my space our 4 year old usually tries to touch everything or he has to move everything once he is done so that I can have my craft classes. His man space ended up being a 10×7 room with a window, access to the deck and a large closet; that is out of the way and for his use only. The fact that I came up with this last minute and didn’t think the entire thing through meant that I had to move my additional craft storage from the space that would become the new office, to another area of the basement and into the studio temporarily. So I basically spent much of November and the beginning of December with craft supplies all over my studio and in disarray in the back room while trying to complete décor for a Birthday Party, my holiday crafts, and complete orders. It was tough but totally worth it. Since we were already renovating the basement area, I added the glass panel door in the pic above so that I could take advantage of the natural light since my room doesn’t have any windows. This also gives me easier access to my new craft storage area which I am actively organizing.

The funny thing is that during the entire renovation, my husband thought I had an underlying agenda other than just trying to give him his own space. LOL He kept hinting that I would try to take over his room but it wasn’t even something I thought about. I was very happy to give him his own space and move all of his music items into his room thus leaving my room for meeeeeeee and the toy kitchen/TV area for my son and his friends when they come over to play. I have been actively working on bringing as many items from the back room into this main room and to use what I have instead of buying more supplies… that I mostly don’t need. And so far the changes have made me less stressed and even more productive. And my husband no longer complains about my space despite how much larger it is than his, which is not my fault since this room was already here when we bought the house.

Hope you enjoy looking at my space as much as I do. Funny the popcorn ceilings never stuck out to me other than in this pic but I know that I am luckier than many of my fellow crafters to have such a large space all to myself. I am eternally grateful popcorn ceiling and all. And if you are considering creating a similar space for yourself or building an office/man cave for your husband, go right away, making him happy will make you have more time to craft. LOL

Can you spot anything in my room that you have in yours?
